  1. Welcome and Introductions – Shelly Karren/Kelly Tauteoli
  • The All For All Assembly was a great kick-off to the year. Students learn expected behavior in the auditorium while building team spirit. Each team parades in to Olympics music, displaying their country’s flag. There are some spirited competitions, including performing the team cheer, etc. A shout out to our three judges: Mont Millerberg (School Board Representative), Ginger Perry (Our Hall Monitor), and Candace Koester (Our PTSA President).
  • Replacing Student Body Officers this year are the Student Ambassadors – representing each grade level team. Ambassadors will help promote team spirit and unity, plan activities, and participate in monthly round table discussions.

2. Election of SCC Officers & Related Business

  • Business President – Brian Mecham
  • Scribe – Lynn Nelson
  • Vice Chair – Michelle Erb

3. Data Review

  • Union Middle won the School Safety Award, presented by the Board for completing all drills on-time and following all Canyons District safety protocols.
  • Reviewed RISE and Reading Inventory (RI) Data – We had some disappointing drops in some areas, but also some big celebrations. Of particular note:
    • o Science Scores have increased 4 years in a row (an 11 point increase). Most impressive, was the 6th grade science students that had 67% of students demonstrate proficiency.
    • o In the 8th Grade, there were increases in ELA, Math and Science.
    • o On the Reading Inventory in 7th and 8th Grade, 73% of students are at grade level for reading.
    • o Our Special Education students in 8th grade increased proficiency on the Reading Inventory from 19% in the fall to 44% in the spring!!
    • o Our Hispanic students are thriving academically at Union. On the Reading Inventory, 35% of our Hispanic students are scoring in the advanced range, with 41% proficient overall.
    • o A whopping 54% of Union students are scoring in the Advanced Category on the Reading Inventory, with 67% proficient overall. We believe our strong reading, ELA, and social studies programs, as well as the focus on rigorous instruction have all contributed to our strength in reading.
