Dear Union Parents and Guardians,

We miss seeing your students every day.  As you know, things are changing so rapidly right now.  I will give you the most updated information we have, with the caveat that it could change.

Home Digital Learning Plan – March 18th – March 27th

Tomorrow morning (Wednesday, March 18th, 8:00 a.m.) your child’s grade level team lead will email out the Home Digital Learning Plan.  The plan for the next two weeks is for students to review content they have already covered in class.  If school is dismissed for a third week and beyond, students will have to start into learning new concepts and skills.  The Home Digital Learning Plan is an outline of things students can do at home to reinforce and enrich their knowledge.  The actual activities and links can be found on their Canvas pages.  They should know how to login to Canvas (they use it a lot!)  If you’re having trouble, don’t hesitate to contact us at Union.  These review/enrichment activities will not be graded; they are optional.  Our priorities for student learning during the next two weeks are:  1) Read every day; 2) Finish and turn in all missing work from Third Quarter; 3) Spend time on review/enrichment learning activities.

Elective and DLI Teachers have also prepared review and enrichment activities.  You will receive those tomorrow morning as well.

For students that do not have access to a digital device at home, we will have paper copies you can pick up in the Main Hall at Union.

ECC and ACC Students – Your child’s teacher has a packet prepared with individualized learning activities.  You can pick them up in the Main Office at Union.

Digital Devices

For the next two weeks, the district’s middle schools will not be checking out Chromebooks.  However, if the dismissal extends beyond March 27th, we will have to make sure students have access to a digital device to not miss out on new learning.  We are trying to get an idea how many devices we would need to prepare for check-out.  If you think you’ll need a Union Chromebook in the future, will you please follow this link to fill out a quick survey?

The district owns 500 internet hotspots that can be loaned to families, but they have been primarily checked out by high school students.  Those students are the first priority because they are earning high school credits for graduation.

Library Books

On the school’s website, there are directions for checking out books from the school’s SORA account (a cloud-based library).  Also, the school website has information on how to check out books or students can email Mrs. Zhang (elaine.zhang@canyonsdistrict.org) to request certain books from the library.  She will get the books to the Main Office for pick-up within three working days.

Contacting Teachers or Other Staff Members

We are available to you to help in any way we can.  Feel free to email or call.  Please give us 24 hours to get back to you.

I will continue to send information as I get it.

What a crazy year!!

Kelly
