Important Drop off/ Pick Up Reminders – Please Read
Parents:
Thank you for a great start to the 24-25 school year! As we have been doing drop off and pick up for the last few weeks, we have some reminders for students and parents to keep the students of Union Middle safe.
-Speed is 10 miles per hour. Please keep your speed in mind as you travel through the school drive.
–Students should exit curbside, not in the roadway.-If dropping off in the parking lot, students should only cross the lanes of traffic with an adult stopping traffic for them.
– Try to keep your drop off times to 7 seconds or less. Please encourage your students to have their bags ready, instruments in hand, and say your goodbyes before getting to school.
-Find those in your area to carpool with.
-Several students and parents have expressed concern with drivers and the vehicle traffic around the intersections on 700 E and 8000 S., as well as at 7800 S. and 700 E. Please discuss with your student ways to cross safely, including watching for cars who push the limits of the yellow lights. We have asked Sandy PD monitor traffic in these areas both before and after school.
-Some students are being dropped off along 8000 S. and the drivers are pulling back into traffic, leading to some near misses with other cars. Please be diligent and turn into the school parking lot before letting students out.
-The north side bus lane is for busses ONLY. In order to maintain the safety of the students who ride the busses and those who are walking, please refrain from using the bus area on the north side for student drop off. We have asked for the support of Sandy PD to help enforce this if it continues to be a safety issue.
