  • Students have 10 school days from the date a grade is entered in Qmlative to turn in late assignments and/or complete/retake assessments.
  • End of Quarter Deadlines:
    • October 14th
    • January 8th
    • March 12th
    • May 21st

Absences: It is the student’s responsibility to get work missed from teachers and make arrangements to turn in missing work/assignments.

Schoolwide Expectations & Citizenship

School and classroom rules center on Union Bobcats showing RESPECT.  RESPECT for SELF, OTHERS and PROPERTY.

Union Middle School supports the Canyons School District’s commitment to helping students become informed, successful, confident, and kind individuals.  Our citizenship grading aligns with the CSD Portrait of a Canyons Scholar, focusing on five key attributes:

  • Impactful Citizen
  • Critical Thinker
  • Innovator
  • Resilient Learner
  • Collaborator

Students will receive regular, rubric-based citizenship grades on these attributes throughout the school year.

Technology Use & Instructional Materials

Union prioritizes high-quality instruction, active student engagement, and meaningful learning experiences.

Technology is used as a tool to support instruction through district-approved devices and resources while balancing screen time with discussion, collaboration, hands-on learning, and independent practice.  Students are expected to use technology, responsibly in accordance with the Canyons School District Acceptable Use Policy.

All instruction materials at UMS have been selected in accordance with CSD Instructional Materials Policy 600.2.

Attendance:

Attendance and punctuality are critical for academic success. Daily instruction including explanations, discussions and clarifications that take place in the classroom are invaluable components of a student’s
learning experience.

When a student is absent from school for one or more periods, a parent or guardian should call the Attendance Office (801)-826-7510 on the day of the absence (or contact the office vis Parent Square).

Attendance is an essential component to academic success. Attendance may impact the student’s citizenship grade.

Please note: Parent/Guardians must come into the main office to check their student outwith ID.  We cannot allow students to be checked out over the phone.

Personal Electronic Devices

Personal electronic devices (i.e. cell phone, gaming devices, smart watches, tablet, earbuds/headphones, etc.) should not be used during the school day (Mon. – Thurs. 7:50 – 2:50 & Fri. 7:50 – 1:10), including lunch, passing time, and school sponsored activities (SB-069).  All devices need to remain turned off and in the student’s backpack, locker or at home.

  • 3rd Offense: Device will need to be picked up by the parent/guardian

UMS Student ID Badges

Students will be provided a lanyard and PBIS student ID card they must have throughout the day. This PBIS
student ID can be scanned for REWARDS points and is required for lunch. This practice also supports overall
school safety.

We expect students to demonstrate respect for themselves, respect for others, and respect for school
property. Any adult can/will reward students who demonstrate school behavior expectations by providing
PBIS Rewards Points. These points can be used at the Bobcat Market School store.
