UMS Updates

UMS TEACHER/TEAM Appreciation Week

At Union Middle School, we are proud to celebrate an extraordinary team of educators who show up each day with dedication, care, and an unwavering commitment to our students. During Teacher Appreciation Week, we recognize the impact our UMS staff makes in every classroom, every hallway, and every interaction. Their work goes far beyond instruction—they build relationships, create a sense of belonging, and ensure each student has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. We are grateful for the passion, professionalism, and heart they bring to our school community.

As we continue to focus on a strong learning environment, we want to remind families and students of our Personal Electronic Device Policy. To support engagement and minimize distractions, personal technology devices—including cell phones, smart watches, earbuds, tablets, and gaming devices—should not be used during the school day. The school day runs from 7:50 AM to 2:50 PM (Monday–Thursday) and 7:50 AM to 1:10 PM (Friday). During this time, all devices must be turned off and stored in backpacks, lockers, or kept at home. This includes lunch, passing time, and all school-sponsored activities. If you need to communicate with your student during the school day, please contact our front office at 801-826-7500 or connect through ParentSquare with the attendance office, teachers, or administrators.

Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting a focused, respectful, and engaging learning environment for all students—and for helping us celebrate the incredible educators who make Union Middle School such a special place.

Important Message from our Library – Please Read

All library books are due back by May 15. Keep an eye on your inbox this coming week; we’ll be sending out a list of any books your child currently has checked out. We’ll be running two separate inventories in the library—one before and one after the deadline—just to make sure every return is accounted for. While we don’t charge late fees, any books not returned by the last day of school will incur a $10 replacement fee. Thank you for helping us get these books back so next year’s students can enjoy them!

Our Chromebook and charger return day is scheduled for Thursday, May 21—just three short weeks away! Please help your child keep their device safe during this final stretch to avoid any last-minute fees for cracked screens or missing keys. Along with the laptop, please ensure your child has their original charger with the barcode still attached. Just a reminder: we cannot accept replacement chargers for any that have been lost.

For Our UMS Community:

Soccer Gear Drive

There is still time to donate to our Soccer Gear Drive. If you happen to have cleats, shin guards or gym shorts you’re not using, or can grab a pair of new soccer socks, you can drop them in the box in the office for our intramural soccer participants to choose from.

UMS Pantry Clean UP

Every day until the end of the school year, there will be a cart just inside the main doors with free food for families. Please feel free to take a bag of food home. We will be cleaning out the pantry for the summer and do not want all the food to go to waste.

*If you are interested in additional food resources for the summer, please contact Dinitri directly.dinitri.jackson@canyonsdistrict.org | ParentSquare message | 801-826-7504
