Happy First Week of School

Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! We had a wonderful first day back and loved having students back on campus. We’re looking forward to a great year of learning, growth, and connection. Here are a few updates to help us kick off the year:

Lockers

7th and 8th grade students were not assigned a locker. They will have the opportunity to fill out a request form and submit it to get a locker assigned next week. Make sure they listen to the announcements so they know when to come down to the office and pick up a form.  

Pick Up and Drop Off

A few reminders to help keep drop-off and pick-up safe and efficient:

• 7 seconds for drop-off: Please have students ready to exit when the curb is open. If you need more time, please park in the lot.
• 5 mph speed limit: Please drive slowly through the school drive.
• North-side bus lane is for buses only: Please do not use it for student drop-off. Sandy PD may assist with enforcement if safety concerns continue.
• Parking lot drop-off: Students should cross traffic only on painted crosswalks, with an adult stopping traffic.
• Intersection safety: Please talk with students about safely crossing at 700 E & 8000 S, especially watching for drivers who may run yellow lights. Sandy PD has been asked to monitor these areas before and after school. 

Thank you for being patient as we learn these routines and for supporting a safe environment for students, families, and staff at Union Middle. We appreciate your feedback and partnership.

Schedules

Please make sure your student has a paper schedule because they cannot use their phones during the school day. They should keep their paper schedule in their backpack and remember to bring it every day so that we’re not having to print multiple.

UMS Pantry and Weekend Food Bags

Our pantry is currently stocked with hygiene items, school supplies and clothing. If your student could use some clothing for the new school year, please feel free to stop by and see what we have. We also have clothing for adults such as, dresses, skirts, dress shirts and slacks.
Weekend food bags will start going home this Friday. If you would like your student to bring home a bag, please remind them to grab one on the way out of the door. If you don’t want your student to pick up a bag, please tell them. We’re hoping explicit parent communication will reduce the amount of bags taken apart and left on campus. We will be passing them out in front of the auditorium and across from the gym for those who ride the bus.
