Safe Routes Plan – concerns with kids running through parking lots or crossing the street where there isn’t a crosswalk. Sandy City doesn’t provide crossing guards for middle schools, but might need to be advocated for. Or possible pedestrian-only crosswalk time to prevent left turn issues. Suggestion for pedestrian bridge to be considered. Bring concerns to Oct 9 SCC meeting.
Digital Citizenship Plan- Digital citizenship presentation: keyword filters – flagged & notified to students and parents; LanSchool usage during school by teachers. All students are required to take a digital literacy course. Digital citizenship week will be Oct 13-17. Also covered level filters (elem, middle, high school) and ways you can filter for your own student.
Electronics – going really well with getting kids to put it away and keep it away. Teachers are supporting the ‘no devices’ policy. The lunch room doesn’t allowbackpacks or chromebooks, and kids are socializing. Device checks will happen to support follow through with the policy. Thinking about sending info out to parents about “classroom” setting on AppleWatch so that kids can’t text or call anyone that isn’t their parent.
Backpacks – Concern addressed with kids not having access to their backpacks during lunch for girls who need monthly sanitary products. Lunch bathrooms arebeing provided with dispensers and free supplies to eliminate the concern. Principal Holden will research whether it’s required to be in all bathrooms, or if they can just leave products in the lunchroom bathroom. There have been issues with kids using it appropriately in regular bathrooms. Girls and teachersneed to be reminded of the codeword “flamingo” to go to the bathroom or get supplies as needed. Suggestion to put it in the girls’ bathrooms so that the word can spread.
PTSA – 26 students have been signed up. We do not yet have a parent leader for the student club. Watchdogs are happening again this year for dads and grandpas to come in and support.
Fundraiser – “no fuss” we keep 90% of the funds raised. Supports building character in kids. When people donate money, kids have to ‘pay it forward’ in acts of service. Starts Oct 6 and runs through the 17th. Kick off video during advisory the Friday before. Community event during the second week that is service oriented. A meeting to discuss and plan the meeting will happen next week. The goal is to hit $6500. Funds go to teacher appreciation, student club, honor parties, reflections, watch dog events, etc. Anything you want on the agenda, send to Ashley Backman at least 1 week before.-
Next SEC meeting: October 9th, 6 p.m. Submit agenda items one week prior.
